RV antifreeze is specifically designed to prevent water systems from freezing during cold weather. Here’s how to use it step-by-step:

  1. Drain the water system: Begin by draining all water from your RV’s plumbing system, including tanks, faucets, and pipes. Turn off the water heater and bypass it if possible, to avoid wasting antifreeze.
  2. Blow out the water: Use compressed air to blow any remaining water out of the pipes. This ensures no water is left to dilute the antifreeze.
  3. Add the antifreeze: Introduce the RV antifreeze into the system using a water pump or directly through a siphon kit. Begin by pouring the antifreeze into the freshwater tank or using a bypass valve (if available) to distribute it straight to the pipes.
  4. Run the faucets: Turn on each faucet (hot and cold) one at a time until antifreeze flows out. Don’t forget the toilet, outdoor shower, and any other water outlets. This guarantees the antifreeze reaches every part of the system.
  5. Flush the toilet: Add antifreeze into the toilet bowl to protect its plumbing components.
  6. Seal and check: Close all faucets and ensure there are no leaks in the system. Top off any tanks, such as the gray and black water tanks, with antifreeze for added protection.
  7. Store safely: Once complete, store your RV for the winter, knowing your plumbing system is protected from freezing damage.

When spring rolls around, flush the antifreeze out thoroughly before using the water system again.

Always follow the product’s instructions for safe and effective use.

What is difference between freeze point and burst point of RV anti-freeze?

The freeze point is the temperature at which ice crystals start to form in the solution creating a slush-like texture. The burst point is the temperature where the solution will begin to expand and cause the pipes to burst. Example: The freezing point temperature for which a product that has -50° F burst protection is around +10°F to +16°F which product will begin to look like slush and will appear rock solid ice around -10°F and below.

Why is my bottle of RV anti-freeze starting to freeze and slush? Is product defective?

If the product is left out in the cold and temperatures fall below the freezing point temperature based on burst protection stated, it is normal for this to happen, and the product is working as intended. The use of RV anti-freeze is designed to help winterize RV’s, vacation homes, trailers and boats piping systems to prevent from bursting due to freezing temperatures.

No, the product is not defective. Simply allow it to thaw until it returns to its original liquid state and proceed with usage as directed.
